What does AB mean?
I have no problems tank.....except, could you please spell politics correctly.....it is a pet peeve of mine that in this world of computers, all with spell check, that none of the younger generation (my god, I am only 37 and saying that) ever checks their spelling. The frickin computers do that for you, and yet you guys still don't check it.
But everything else, no problem. You are young, but one of the first lessons of life that you should learn is that you have to know what you want to argue, and then make solid points about it.....you were all over the board. _________________

LOL my bad! Don't worry, I do it for school work, but if it's something like this, I guess I don't care as much (it's not like it's for a grade.) I'll work on it though lol :P. Oh, and AB means Alliance Battles. Which is kind of like a massive 12 vs. 12 capture the flag sort of deal....ish, and by ish I mean not really....ish....again. _________________

Queen Hippolyte......look it up Clarke.....it's from mythology.........
http://people.uncw.edu/deagona/amazons/hippolyte2test.htm#Who%20was%20Hippolyte
Nah.....I'll save you the time.......Queen Hippolyte was the Queen of the Amazons during the twelve labors of Heracles.
She first appears in the myth when Theseus, who was accompanying Heracles on his quest against the Amazons, kidnaps her. Hippolyte bore Theseus a son named Hippolytus.
According to the scholiast on Homer, Melanippe and Hippolyte were among the Amazon women, “men’s equals,” who came to Phyrgia for war between Phyrgians and Achaians (Blok, p.146).
According to Apollodorus, Penthesileia, daughter of Otrere and the god Ares, accidentally killed Hippolyte and was purified.
Hippolyte was mother of Hippolytus, she also goes by the names Glauke and Melanippe (Blok, p.198).
“The names Andromache and Andromeda for the opponent of Herakles should be regarded as anomalous…”
In textual traditions Herakles’ opponent is only called Hippolyte or Antiope.
“They are both known as mythical women who originally underwent a sacrificial death, but in the more familiar versions they became the wives of heroes.” (Blok, p.219)
According to Apollonios, Herakles captured Melanippe, the daughter of the queen, by trickery and returned her unharmed to the Amazon queen.

As a kid I was enamored with Greek and Viking mythology....I knew/know nothing about Amazon mythology.....I really should get back to reading about this stuff. Any suggestions for good books that don't read like a text book? I would like books with stories like the ones you just summarized.
You know that a lot of the books like Tolkein's or the Donaldson "Covenant" series' (which I recommend more than any other author ever) and other "fantasy" books get their roots in Scottish mythology.
Also, any other suggestions for reading while I am on the beach (starting next Saturday)? I usually go thru 2 or 3 a week when on the beach, though with the kids being a lot more active and not afraid of the water last year it was more like 1-1/2, so it will probably be more like that this time around. _________________

Hey! I like Greek Mythology! Not sure what to tell you about Amazon Mythology, but how much have you read on the battle of Thermopoly? Sure they made the movie 300 about it, but I like the way the actual myth puts it. 1,000,000 vs. 300. To bad in real life they only had to face 25,000 Persians instead of the 1,000,000. Also in the myth they died right at the last second. In the movie (it's what i've head, I personaly haven't seen it yet) they survive and make it until the Roman Army arrives. I also love Achilles. My favorite myth of them all. _________________

Cannot say that I know much about it....in school we read mostly about the Greek Gods and of course portions of the Odyssey, and I cannot remember much of anything, other than it was some really wild stories. But specifics have left me, other than what is today Libya was the Land of Lotus, I think, and I believe the Sirens were a part of it too (they are also seen in the Stephen Donaldson books I have mentioned, the 2nd trilogy of Thomas Covenant, known as the 2nd Chronicles of Thomas Covenant). Is the Battle of Thermopoly part of Homer's Odyssey?
My father loved the movie 300, but I have not gotten around to renting it yet. _________________

I'm not sure if it is a part of the Odyssey. In 8th grade, only the advanced English students got to read it. (I heard it was boring, so I stayed away from it.) _________________

Never trust your friends when it comes to books.....it is not a classic because its boring, trust me....It is all a matter of taste...me, I read a lot, and I read from many genres. So I am not a good person to ask about books, because I like most that I read. But check it out for yourself and decide for yourself, don't let your friends do that for you. You will miss out on much in life if you only follow the crowd. _________________

ok..first time ive looked at this topic..
1. i think the video deserves a standing ovation, and the video of the person falling from one of the towers....extremely saddening :(
2. Jen...you made me want to punch my screen at times....
3. not too sure what to say about iraq except all the terrorists are God Damned Pussys
4. I also love Greek/viking lore...but especialy viking lore, may have something to do with the viking/saxon blood on my dads side...my last name is even saxonish(wike, like the pole weapon known as a pike)
5. Ive seen the movie 300, and actualy....they do all die but it is near the end but man is it a glorious death...if you want to call it that....shot by a kajillion arrows, enough to block out the sun actualy...after making a god emporer bleed...thereby making him/her/it(definitely an it if you have seen the southpark version) not an immortal _________________
