Well, you know from AT that I am looking for books from when I was a kid to get for my kids. I actually am a fairly slow reader I think, but I love it.....I often reread pages because I think I may have missed some details.

Gotta go.....kickoff in 25 minutes.

Not trying to pester you Nick, and I am sorry if it came that way. Screw him means 1 thing.....and it is not what you posted.....and it did sound like an 8 year old trying to be older.....

I was just hoping you might try to look at reading and give it another shot. There are soooooo many reasons to do so. I stopped reading when I was in high school, for the usual reasons......girls, beer and girls. Started reading again in college, and found that its the best entertainment in the world (that does not involve your kids or your wife).

Hopefully some day you will give it a shot and realize it. If you do, and need help finding a book, both Queen and I can help....between the 2 of us, I think we have read several hundred books.
ehhhh nope...and you said give you things i like and youll find a book?.....scifi classic rock gaming computers starbucks swimming china tv meeting people experiencing something new photograhpy videos driving snowboarding the beach colorado snow magnets coke water(as in the ocean)getting good grades(in school) looking at scenery dragons pandas bamboo.....enough?

Try narrowing it down to a few passions dude.....give it some thought....if sci fi turns you that is too damn easy. There is so much out there its not funny, and I aint talking Isaac Asimov (probably the worst thing ever to happen to sci fi in my personal opinion).

You say ocean....you want old sea stories, or more of a scientific level? I got both.

Beach? I cannot say that I have ever read about the beach....its sandy, what more do you want? But I have some wonderful suggestions for scientific books regarding animal life and ecology on beaches around the world.

Dragons? Would fantasy books fit your bill? I have already given you 1 incredible author and set of books for that, the Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander. I cannot say that dragons are a big part. Heck, I think there may only be one book that they are mentioned. But if it must be dragons, give me a few days to find the right box, because there is a set of books, maybe 2, that I remember from my childhood which are stored in my basement somewhere (its in disarray right now.....remodeling, so it may take me a few).

I am not going to bother finding a book on bamboo, coke or magnets. Give me a break. Give me subjects that interest you. Don't get cute.

I think I have some Salvatore......if its the one I am thinking of, that was one of the ones I wanted to go look for.

Actually Becks, there is a really good series you might like. Its Raymond E. Reist. I have read the first 2 books of his series....the first book is Magician: Apprentice, which started a little slow for the first hour, then you cannot put it down, and the next is Magician: Master; Both books are spectacular. His next book, which is in the same series, changes pace a little and does not follow the same heroes, which took me a day to get used to it (I get attached to characters, like they are a part of my life or something....wierd!), but then it was great.....then I found another book by Stephen Donaldson had come out and I never picked up the series again, but I am intending on starting the next one once I take the P.E. exam at the end of October, again  ......I am too busy studying right now to read any novel.

I seriously recommend those books. I still like Donaldson, Alexander (though he is for kids, he is the king, and the first I read ever in this genre), and Tolkein best, but this guy is the best of the rest so far. I have to look up in my collection downstairs a few other books coming back to me from my teen years, because I have tons.....I never throw books away!

No, too young for you, and nobody recommended that one......go to the library and get Lloyd Alexander's "Chronicles of Prydain"......Narnia sucked compared to that one. Seriously. It truly sucked in comparison....plus, I found, after reading the first 3 or 4, that I was growing tired....became very formula driven. With Prydain it was never that way. It was 1 long and exciting journey. Narnia was the same short journey over and over and over again.

Still not a great series of books, in my opinion. Vaguely interesting. But you may find you love it, so go for it. I forget the first book, but I remember somebody told me to skip it and go straight to "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", which is actually the 2nd book. Hopefully you enjoy it. Queen and I want your thoughts when you are done. Its a quick read, so get back to us next Sunday on it.

Thats the one I was told to skip. Okay, the librarian must have told me it was the 1st one chronologically then. I actually reread "The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" about 3 years back when I saw that they were making a movie out of it. It was a good book, but took quick and short. The problem I had with the series is that they were repetitive. Of course that was 25 years ago when I read it, so I could be off in my memory. Needless to say, I never finished the series. Maybe I will with my kids someday. I just bought my son a favorite of mine from when I was a kid.....Jerome Beatty's "Matthew Looney's Voyage to Earth"....probably my first "sci fi", though it really wasn't. Matthew Looney is a kid from the moon who dreams of being an astronaut and flying to earth to see if there is life there, and ends up being on the first mission to the earth......written around the time of the space race in the 60s. Out of print now, so I bought it used online.....my copies were loaned to my cousins when I was a teenager and were never returned. Shame of it is, they probably were never read......dumb side of the family.....literally.

As soon as I get the copy I am going to start reading it to my kids. Probably a chapter a night. Take about a week to read it to them.

either way..in the chronicles of narnia IF anyone ever reads it you should actually skip around starting with book 4 "The Magician's Nephew" reading this will help you understand how narnia came to be and the basic and complex plots...it also explains about the wardrobe and The proffesor that the kids stayed with...it also says somewhere, i dont remember if it was one of the books or the movie but somewhere it says the kids cant go back to narnia and the professor has tried for years to get back but he cant>>>>>>>>>>anyways the point is here that they end up do going back because of The Horn of Susan, the plot behind this horn is that whenever it is blown help will come.. and it is one of the girls that return to narnia
