Sunday we had a quick lets go gvg practice. Everyone against Ubs, Devil (friend and guild leader of our other guild) and I. Wont say who won... but noticed some improvement on other team by the end. Great job all that came...
Am thinking of making this a weekly thing if enough are interested. Just want to state that please keep in mind that if we do (ubs and I) talk to you about your builds or anything else we noticed it isnt being arrogant. I know personally I am trying to help. Not that I am the greatest pvper out there... but I do have some experience.
A few observations I noticed (no names to protect my own buns):
1. Noticed that there really wasnt much teamwork. Not sure if anyone was calling or leading with strats (running show basically). I did have a few spikes on me, but wasnt organized enough to get me.
2. Noticed also as far as team goes that almost everyone had some self heal but not many had rez sig. Will say that in my opinion unless you are playing monk a rez sig is one of the most important skills. Reason being: rezs at full health and energy FAST!! means that whoever is down is brought back up as quickly as possible to continue doing their job. (personal experience, have had several people doing rez ASAP when team member was down. Vent helps with rezing <insert # here>. )
3. Rebirth. Thanks for that. But please dont bring it if you are on my team. It was great having a monk rebirthed so we could kill him so much faster. I cripped him and Ubs hit him once. DOWN. Minus one monk. Not to mention the person that used it had no energy to help team stay alive so we did a great wipe on that. I do use rebirth in pve but never pvp. Mostly if it is a hard rez (in other words skill instead of sig) but on a midliner (ele, para, mesmer. which is the best with fast casting imo) rez chant or the para rez (not in game and dont remember skill name). I am sure Ubs could name more.
4. Lack of communication. Trying to figure out how everyone can talk without typing. I was informed that one couldnt get on vent (vista sucks btw) but see if that cant be worked out. Check ventrilo forums or ask help desk. If vent wont work I am sure Tom would let you use ts if you can get that. But communication is very important. Even if you dont have a mic to use (one high end pvper had a broken mic, but is a fast typer, and likes to yell alot, glad his mic didnt work. Sadly he has gotten another one. KIDDING. glad he doesnt read this forum... /hides) you can still hear the caller for spikes, the team telling if they have hexes or conditions, the strat caller telling which people to go gank or kill the gankers. But that is another subject. Just so people can talk to each other easier than typing. I know I dont really pay attention to chat window when watching radar and screen to see who is doing what. If needed turn off channels. Let people know you are doing this first, if this is a distraction from what is going on elsewhere on screen.
I have noticed more but cant think of them atm.
Want to say that Ubs is a wonderful teacher. I know, he talked me into doing more pvp than I thought I would. But then I make him pve so its a good trade off. But... please listen to him. He will ask some pretty tough questions like.. "why did you lose?" (and he hates the answer because we suck). He isnt trying to be snide or put anyone down, just make people think about how and what they did and how as a team they can improve this. This is said from personal experience. Mostly he will wait till after a match to talk to people.
I understand this wasnt a organized team we fought. Was people from different guilds in the alliance. Which is great, glad to see interest in pvp. I also know that Ubs and I are a tough team to beat regardless. Basically because we work as a team even in pve. Which helps alot in pvp.
Good practice would be to:
1. Watch observe. See what top teams are running, this will change constantly. If you have a favorite profession, observe them (ranger here and trust me have watched plenty of top rangers and have had some training by them). If you have to write down the skills they use, or find a build on wiki similar. (I prefer the first part as I know what exactly they are using and try to figure out when and energy management).
2. If you have found a build you think you can run try it out. To be honest I can run the burning arrow build that used to be the ranger bar in pvp in pve. Okay so I can run just about any pvp build in pve on a ranger (love magebane) but it may be better to start out in ra or ab (in ab drop the rez for something else) if you can get a team together go try ta. Or once you feel confident ask for a team scrimage in alliance. Will see what I can do to help.
3. Practice!!! If you and your team want to try out spikes then do so. Remember that vent or ts is very important. Do dance spikes (lots of fun and someone has to get used to calling 3 2 1) Go to Isle of Nameless and see how much damage you cause on master of damage. Or our favorite is the barrels. We do this almost every time we have a spike group, especially with people we dont normally play with.
For the first ever almost official gvg practice will say all that came did a great job. (my first gvg I had no clue what the flag was or what was suppose to do with it, and was killed by my own team when they were messing with catapult, not good. Lost plenty!!! But had fun anyway)
You atleast tried and that is important. Had me worried there for a bit, low energy from someone yelling at me to constantly d shot things or crip this that was miles away from me being blinded constantly, very annoying. Congrats to all that came.
Also want to say way to go on those that did hoh with us later that night. We only got one fame, but we went against some good teams. There was no chance at all us beating [Poke] who I will add went on to win halls twice after we fought them. I know I had fun even if I did have several spikes on me, some darn para that interrupted everything I tried doing. But got to see the phoenix emote. Want that bird!!! my silly deer just flaps his ears at people. Maybe we can do more ha????
almost forgot. Appears we are in need of some flaggers. I realize I am very rusty at this, havent been flagger for awhile now. But I still know the basics and I am sure Ubs (I hope that is) will help with what I have forgotten. If anyone is interested in this please contact me. It isnt as hard as one thinks, but it is a very important part of a team. Need those rez sigs recharged!! K love ya.. bye. _________________

Anyone interested in doing this again this weekend. I know ask in game also. Would love to, have been observing some and found some things I want to try out. Yes that means I may not be on crip ranger. Would love to have enough for full teams but not that important. Just as long as there is enough to run some team builds. And now for some fun:
(what I wish I was doing instead of being at work) (my favorite besides the hug)
Happy Friday everyone!!! _________________

Okay calling this weekends gvg as practice since we scrimaged Ubs' guild.
Problems (take deep breath, I did):
I asked for: 2 War, crip shot ranger, ele (kill skills), mesmer (e-surge), 2 monks and flagger.
Got: At first 4 or 5 warriors, crip shot, sin and I dont know what else. Basic chaos.
Reason for request was to run a simple pressure balance. Feeling my way around Bio to see what this guild is able to run. OMG I love the response I got but please be respectful!!! By the time we were fighting I was so drained I couldnt think of what they might be running. And I KNOW THEM, have been in same guilds (until recently) for almost 3 years together. I have pvped with them for almost as long. Not saying that means I would win against them, heavens no.. but I should have been able to hold them off better.
Having to scream on vent just to get heard was not good. Actually made me very angry!! I resorted to typing. And sorry to those that werent on vent (be happy you werent) I am so used to having and screaming stuff on vent that I forgot some werent on. Not that anything I said was heard anyway. Was all I could do not to just go over to the other sides vent for some quiet. Trust me, even with Mags and Boo it is more peaceful than what I was getting.
Point: Communication is key. Even without mic you will be able to hear what I am trying to do. Whether it be strat calling or trying to set up builds and team. Or even condition blinds or target calls. I can say that I am thinking Bio is not ready for a spike team. Wanting to start with simple balanced no gimick builds yet. So dreams of sin splits (NOT READY) or any other things on observe are not going to be done on any team I form till I feel you are ready.
I Will not shout over people anymore!! If you do not wish to listen then I do not wish to gvg with you. (I know you guys were having fun but I have a point, and still love you even though you royally pissed me off). If this means we are short people then we are short people. As for people in channel that are not on team... fine you may learn something but if I hear you speak while I am.... just dont even think about it.
Dont want to sound like a Witch with a B but come on... where was MY respect as gvg officer...!!!!!
Thank you.. rant over for now. _________________

Forgot to thank Robbie for monking for us.
I know pvp isnt something you are used to, and not sure if I warned you also that you would be their other main target outside of me (its because they love me right? ) Thank you for trying!!!! And you were very patient with me trying to get this unruly group going. Hoping this doesnt discourage you from doing it again.
And yes was and am totally embarassed. Talking to them while they observed the match. Guess I could have set up better _________________
