I personally like roses. Mostly Hybrid Teas with a few florabundas. Along with that a few clumps of babys breath. Makes for great arrangements. I plan to expand my rose garden next year....alot of work, but the benefits are great. Also have apple trees, but that can be hit and miss as far as how good the crop is especially if there's a late frost just when they start to bloom. Got rid of my vegetable garden a couple of years ago because it was so labor intensive plus we grew enough for the neighborhood. So I put my efforts solely into the the lawn, shrubs, and rose garden. _________________ Say no more....say no less |

Generally pinks, creamy whites(not white, white), and some multis like Chicago Peace or Peace. Reds are OK, as I have a couple mixed in, but disagree with your bloom part, although depending on the hybrids, all colors vary. _________________ Say no more....say no less |

You have to see my melon patch Queen.....I have a little tiny patch in my front yard, about 5'x12', for melons/pumpkins.....I already took out a gord about 6" in diameter (so its small, but I think thats the type), and have another pumpkin/gord a little bigger.....but I have about 20 little melons of unknown origin....I know at least 3 are honeydews, but the rest could be cantelopes or any variety of pumpkins (I seeded my pumpkins from last halloween and planted a mixture, so there is a possibility of upto 7 varieties.....2 have already ripened as I said above)....once it starts to get color, hopefully by the time I get back from the shore in 2 weeks, I will take a pic and send it to you.
The real garden is 3 houses up behind my father's house....he has a lot more sun than us (ours is ringed by woods)....and we have been harvesting corn for 3 weeks and tomatoes and zucchini and squash and peppers like crazy for the last 4 to 6 weeks.....onions and radishes and peas are long gone.
Its been fun for us - first time we have had a garden together since I moved out after high school.....19 years ago.....damn, I am getting old. But its cool, now we have 3 generations working together, though the 5 and (now) 7 year old don't do much but get in the way.....but I don't care, they think they are helping, which they do sometimes, and that is all that matters. _________________

My father had a huge garden when I was a kid, and at one point had 2 huge ones....you name it, it grew there. I loved it. And whenever we visited my grandad (my mom's dad), who was from Britain, and you know how they are about their gardens, we were always checking out the garden. Its funny, as close as I was with my grandad, I don't know that I was ever in his garden in my life while he was living (22 years). I could look, but I was never in it. Maybe in the last few years of his life, I cannot remember. I think the summer after his death, but before we sold his place, that I may have planted something in it, or had planned to anyway, cannot be sure. His garden was immaculate. Not a weed in sight. Even his compost box was immaculate. We would go home with several pounds of tomatoes, beans and carrots, and a few heads of cabbage every time we visited (about once a week).
Gardens are just something I have always been around. My grandad would be ashamed of mine....I specialize in weeds....but I get a lot of produce to. More than I can consume....actually, this summer, more than 2 families (my parents are also taking stuff since its in their garden) can consume. _________________
